Week 14 Guided Questions

What objective details suggest that Henrietta was a devoted and loving mother?
There was a lot suggesting that Henrietta was a devoted Loving Mother . Very clear at the time of her demise . While speaking to her sister telling her " Make sure Day takes care of the children especially m baby Deborah " She could feel shes about to move on and was concern about the things she never got to do with Deborah. How she goes on describing the things she wished she did with her like dress he up  in beautiful clothes , braid her hair teach her how to paint her nails  curl her hair and Handle Men. Its Not just any other Mother that would describe her feelings and emotions in that way.

What does the use of the term “a miserable specimen” by Henrietta’s doctors reveal about their attitude toward her? In your own words, explain the paradox “benevolent deception.”
Sad, The doctors never looked at her as a patient rather as a specimen .On some occassions I felt they kind of never wrote correctly on her chat ,describing that patient feels and looks Ok . Theres avery thick line from diagnosing someone from syphillis while the have cancer . Not sure but I thing racism might have a role in this too.
I look at the paradox from the perspective of being called a “a miserable specimen” while her cells end up cha ging medicine  alltogether . Its totally the opposite If i had to call it something Id call it the "Ultimate Specimen". Also “benevolent deception.” we expect the doctors to be looking after our intrests not looking at patients as  just speciment  of what they did .
Who was Alexis Carrel? Contrast his approach to science and tissue culture with George Gey’s.
He was a french surgeon ay the Rockefellah insitute who grew an immortal chiciken heart outside of the body. Alexis to me apperared as a high scale class doctor who was intreasted in focussing more onwho was who then and superiour people at that time whilist Gey approach was rather diffrent as he intented to use medicine for the betterment of human beings irrespective of class or race .It appeared to me that Gey was more realistic and human with his intentions
Describe Deborah’s childhood. What challenges did she have to overcome? What questions did Deborah have about her mother and sister? Why do you think no one told her very much about them?
Deborah had an unpleasant brigringing after Henrietta passed away. Its kind of she had fears at her dying bed  about her and looking back its kind of explainable as to why she was concerned about her . Basically her dad never was there for her as a father would be . She was pysically and emotioanally  and psychologically abused and after telling day or attempting to tell him he never believed it . Its frustrating that she went to someone she thought would help him but never did take any step to help her out
